Brick Walks

Brick offers a centuries old classic look that has proven it can pass the test of time.  Paving brick is installed over a compacted based of modified and screened stone with many available patterns and styles.  Brick can be formed in a mold or wire cut during it formation for very different looks.  You can find more information on various types of brick on the Glen-Gery web site.
Paving brick is installed over a compacted based of modified and screened stone.  Walks are blended into existing grade, with a minimum of disturbance to surrounding lawns and gardens, and the proper pitch.   Dimex edging can be used below grade to restrain edges of the brick.  Also shown in the photos below are bricks mortared vertically along the edges (solider bricks) as a restraint for the walk.  Cobble stones, flagstone or pressured treated ties can also be used as a border.   Basketweave, herring bone, running bond, or other patterns can be used.  Please view some examples of our brick patios below.
All walks shown were constructed by Robert J. Kleinberg Landscape Design and Construction.  He is an ICPI Certified Concrete Paver Installer and a NCMA Certified Segmental Retaining Wall Installer.  He is also an EP Henry Authorized Hardscaping Contractor, and has been designing and constructing patios, walks and gardens in Philadelphia, Montgomery County ( Lower Merion, Bala Cynwyd, Ardmore, Narberth ), Delaware County ( Havertown, Marple, Drexel Hill, Lansdowne, Springfield, Swarthmore, Ridley, Media, Upper Darby, Newtown Square, Radnor ), and the Main Line ( Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Gladyne, Wynnewood ) PA as a Landscape and Hardscaping contractor since 1986.

26 HB Brick Walk - Herringbone with Brick Border - Bryn Mawr, PA

Molded 26 HB bricks were used here with a 90% herringbone pattern and dimex edging below grade.  Bricks in the existing walk were cleaned, set aside and used as an 8-inch  border of  brick running across the walk along the edges.  Total width of walk is about 4-feet.

Brick Walk with Soldier Bricks Mortared Vertically for Edging - Lower Merion, PA

Wire cut red paving brick were used here with a running bond pattern going with the walk.  Total width of walk is about 3-feet, flaring wider at the street.

53 DD Brick Curved Walk - Havertown, PA

Molded 53 DD bricks were used here with a running bond pattern going with the walk and dimex edging below grade.  Darker bricks were set aside and used as a 4-inch border along the sides of the walk.  Total width of walk is about 3-feet.

53 DD Brick Straight Walk - Havertown, PA

Again molded 53 DD bricks were used here with a running bond pattern going with the walk and dimex edging below grade.  In this example an 8-inch  border of  brick running across the walk (opposite direction of the bricks in the center) was used along the sides of the walk.  Total width of walk is about 3-ft. 4-in.
