Flagstone Veneer Steps & Landings

  • Bluestone & Flagstone can be used as a veneer over concrete steps and landings that are in sound shape and can allow for the extra 2-inches that the flagstone veneer will add.
  • It is an economical way of incorporating flagstone into a project.  Since the existing steps do not have to be removed and the footers are already in place they are more economical than other types of flagstone steps.
  • The veneer will add about 2-inches to the top and bottom step.

  • All steps shown were constructed by Robert J. Kleinberg Landscape Design and Construction.
  • He is a Horticulturist, an ICPI Certified Concrete Paver Installer and a NCMA Certified Segmental Retaining Wall Installer.
  • He is also an EP Henry Authorized Hardscaping Contractor.
  • He has been designing and constructing patios and gardens as a Landscape and Hardscaping contractor since 1986.

Flagstone Veneer Steps

Bluestone Veneer - Havertown, Delaware County, PA 19083

On this job we had three sets of steps that were in fairly good shape.  We replaced the concrete walks between the steps with Bluestone, and veneered both  the front risers and top treads with one piece bluestone treads.  We also veneered the side of the top set of steps with one piece of bluestone.  The height of the walks below the steps was raised to make up for the height of the bluestone and mortar.

Bluestone & Flagstone Landing -  Wynnewood, Main Line Montgomery County, PA 19096

Concrete landing here was covered with a flagstone veneer , and the front edge with bluestone treads to help tie it in with the flagstone walks.  The front of the threshold was also faced with bluestone treads.  You can see more of this job on our Flagstone Walk Page.

Bluestone Step Treads & Landing -  East Lansdowne, Delaware County, PA 19050

The steps here were fairly new and structurally sound, but the top of the concrete was flaking and spalling (another contractor's work), so we covered the tops of the steps with single pieces of Bluestone Treads as an economical way to improve the appearance of the steps without a major overhaul.  The sides and the front of the steps were not covered.  Concrete sidewalk below the bottom step was also taken up and replaced with concrete at a higher level to account for the height added by the Bluestone treads.
